The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today carried out multiple drives across the country following allegations of irregularities in the health, agriculture and sports sectors.

On Tuesday (Sept 16), an ACC enforcement team began raiding the Directorate of Sports, operating under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The operation, led by Assistant Director Jewel Hasan from ACC’s head office, follows accusations of misappropriation of state funds allocated for implementing the Directorate’s Annual Sports Programme. The allegations include widespread financial irregularities and possible embezzlement tied to project execution.

Simultaneously, another ACC team from the Integrated District Office conducted a separate operation at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) in Gazipur. This raid focuses on claims of irregularities in the implementation of various research projects, including questionable recruitment practices.

In a third coordinated action, ACC officials from Chuadanga’s district office raided the Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex. Investigators are probing charges of embezzling several crore taka by fabricating expenses related to surgeries and operating theatre costs. Additional accusations include irregularities in distributing medicines meant for patients and harassment in the delivery of healthcare services.

The ACC has confirmed that details from all these operations will be released upon the conclusion of the investigations.
