The newly appointed United States Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, has presented his credentials to President Mohammad Sahabuddin. He presented the credentials at Bangabhaban on Thursday (15 January).
Welcoming the new U.S. ambassador, the President expressed hope that relations between the two countries would be further strengthened in the future, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, education, and culture.
At the same time, the new U.S. ambassador pledged to make all-out efforts to deepen Bangladesh–U.S. relations, making them more robust, multidimensional, and productive. He also sought the President’s overall cooperation in carrying out his duties.
Senior officials from the President’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present on the occasion.
Earlier, on Monday evening, officials from the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the new ambassador at the airport.
On 9 January, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador, Brent Christensen, took the oath of office at the U.S. Department of State, administered by Michael J. Rigas, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. Following this, he was officially welcomed by the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
Nominated by the Donald Trump administration, Christensen is serving as the 18th U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh.
According to information on the U.S. Department of State’s website, Brent Christensen is a senior officer of the U.S. Foreign Service and has previous experience working at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
From 2019 to 2021, he served as Political and Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
Previously, Peter Haas served as the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh. He was the 17th U.S. Ambassador and served in Dhaka from March 2022 to April 2024.
