Why the BPL May Be Suspended Indefinitely

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) may be suspended indefinitely due to protests by cricketers demanding the removal of board director M. Nazmul Islam from the post of Chairman of the BCB Finance Committee. As a result of the protest, players refused to take the field, leading to the cancellation of the first match of the Dhaka phase.

On 15 January, after the match between Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express failed to start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, the second match of the day also came under uncertainty. If the evening match scheduled at 6:00 PM between Rajshahi Warriors and Sylhet Titans does not take place, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) may announce the suspension of the 12th edition of the BPL for an indefinite period.

The unrest has arisen as the players remain firm in their demand for M. Nazmul Islam’s resignation and continue their protest by refusing to play. If the situation persists, the possibility of suspending the country’s biggest cricket tournament, the BPL, continues to grow.
