Danish Prime Minister Warns Against Tariff Pressure on Europe

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has strongly criticized the United States’ decision to impose tariffs on eight European countries, declaring that Europe will never be held hostage and will stand united.

US President Donald Trump recently announced tariffs on all goods exported to the United States from eight European nations. The tariffs are set to take effect on February 1 at a rate of 10 percent, with the possibility of increasing to 25 percent, remaining in place until an agreement is reached.

The affected countries include the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Finland. European leaders believe the move is linked to their opposition to US plans regarding Greenland.

Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has been at the center of controversy following statements suggesting its strategic importance to US security. The issue has drawn widespread criticism across Europe.

European leaders have jointly condemned the tariff decision, warning that such measures undermine cooperation. In a separate statement, the Danish Prime Minister emphasized that Europe seeks cooperation, not conflict, and remains firmly committed to the core values of the European community.

Meanwhile, European leaders have continued diplomatic discussions, stressing that Greenland’s security is a collective priority for NATO allies and that imposing tariffs on allied nations runs counter to the principles of collective security.
