Jamaat-e-Islami–nominated and 10-party alliance–backed candidate for the Dhaka-17 constituency, Dr. S. M. Khaliduzzaman, has issued a warning saying, “We won’t give any seats in Dhaka; everything will be ‘taken over.’” The remark can be heard in a video that has spread on Facebook.

The video went viral on Facebook late Tuesday night. In the footage, Dr. Khaliduzzaman is seen sitting in a car and making the comments while heading somewhere. His remarks have sparked mixed reactions among netizens, with many expressing strong objections and criticism.

In the same video, Dr. Khaliduzzaman is also heard saying, “Don’t be afraid—everything will be taken care of. Tomorrow we might hold a press conference in Gulshan. Make a plan to be around there tomorrow evening.”

He further states, “This time the election will be like Eid. Don’t worry about who does what—everything will be completely managed. Islami Chhatra Shibir will win all student union elections and will also win the Shaksu election. We will win the election in Dhaka as well—we will win everything. We won’t give any seats in Dhaka.”
