A court has imposed a travel ban on the wife and children of former State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Md. Zakir Hossain. Those barred from leaving the country are his wife, Mosa. Suraiya Sultana, his son Md. Safayet Bin Zakir, and his daughter Jakia Tabassum Sanchayee.
On Monday (January 26), Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Sabbir Fayez passed the order following an application filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), according to court bench assistant Md. Riaz Hossain.
Earlier in the day, ACC Assistant Director Md. Nazmul Islam submitted three separate applications seeking travel bans on Zakir Hossain’s wife, son, and daughter.
The applications stated that the ACC had issued notices to them to submit statements of assets. It further mentioned that evidence has been found indicating their direct involvement in assisting the former state minister in acquiring illegal assets. There is also an apprehension that they may attempt to leave the country.
Therefore, in the interest of a fair and proper investigation, the ACC requested the court to prevent them from traveling abroad and to issue necessary directives to the Immigration and Passport Department to ensure effective enforcement of the ban.
After hearing the petitions, the court approved all three applications.
