At Just 15, Laurent Simons Earns a PhD in Quantum Physics

Laurent Simons, a 15-year-old prodigy from Belgium, has stunned the scientific community by earning a PhD in quantum physics from the University of Antwerp—an age when most teenagers are still in school.

Simons completed high school at the age of eight and obtained his bachelor’s degree in physics by twelve. His doctoral research focused on Bose polarons, examining particle behavior at extremely low temperatures, building upon foundational work by physicist Satyendra Nath Bose.

After completing his PhD, Simons has moved to Munich to pursue further research in medicine and artificial intelligence, aiming to slow human aging and improve disease detection. Despite lucrative job offers from major tech firms, he and his family chose to prioritize long-term research and personal development.
