Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, chief coordinator of the election management committee of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has said that the country has witnessed authoritarian rule not only in the past but also in the present. He alleged that after experiencing what he termed “Sheikh Hasina’s fascism,” people are now witnessing another form of authoritarianism under a different political force over the last 17 months.
“They did not keep any of their promises in the past, and they will not keep any in the future either,” Asif Mahmud said while addressing a roadside rally on Tuesday.
He made the remarks at around 11:30 am during a street meeting organized by the Ten-Party Alliance at Sebarhat Bazar in Senbagh, Noakhali-2 constituency. Leaders and activists of the alliance were present at the event.
Speaking to voters, Asif Mahmud urged the people of Senbagh to cast their votes in favor of Sultan Mohammad Zakaria Majumder, the National Citizen Party–nominated candidate of the Ten-Party Alliance in the constituency. He called on voters to support Zakaria Majumder by voting for the “Shapla Kali” (Lotus Bud) symbol.
Asif Mahmud criticized what he described as repeated failures of ruling forces to uphold democratic commitments. He said people are tired of broken promises and want genuine political change based on accountability, justice, and respect for citizens’ rights.
“The people of this country are no longer deceived by words alone. They want to see actions, not slogans,” he added, emphasizing the need for an alternative political force that truly represents public aspirations.
After the street meeting, leaders and activists of the Ten-Party Alliance brought out a procession in support of the Shapla Kali symbol, marching through nearby areas of Sebarhat to mobilize voters ahead of the election.
The rally was part of the alliance’s ongoing campaign activities in Noakhali as political parties intensify outreach efforts ahead of the upcoming national election.
