Mirza Abbas, BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 and a member of the party’s standing committee, said on Wednesday that the BNP will not engage in any conflicts with opponents. Speaking at a public rally at Brothers Club ground in Motijheel, Dhaka, he emphasized that victory is at hand and warned against allowing any provocative words or actions to undermine it.

Addressing party supporters, Abbas said some groups are attempting to weaken the country for dishonest purposes, but the people will respond through the upcoming 12 February election. He added that no party can stand against the BNP, and it is time to accept this reality.

Abbas stressed that BNP members are disciplined and committed to peaceful politics. He accused certain quarters of spreading false propaganda to tarnish the party ahead of the polls, claiming that those without electoral experience are trying to undermine BNP.

Regarding the election atmosphere, he urged that while competition is natural, it should remain celebratory and civil, asking everyone to exercise restraint amid the tense political climate.

At one point, he also criticized the behavior of some young people, saying their lack of decorum harms the political environment. Quoting Persian poet Sheikh Saadi, Abbas said, “The fate of the rude is always bad, but those with courtesy prosper.”
