Commenting that the country is not safe in the hands of anti-independence forces, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that Bangladesh cannot be secure under those who opposed independence.
He made the remarks on Saturday (January 31) morning during an election campaign in the Paschim Akcha area of Thakurgaon-1 constituency.
Referring to Jamaat, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Another party has come to seek votes. Their election symbol is the balance scale.
In 1971, they did not support the Liberation War. They killed many people and violated the honor of mothers and sisters. They have still not apologized.”
He further said, “Do not give your bKash numbers to anyone—these are all tricks and scams. They claim that voting for them will ensure entry into heaven; such claims are not true. In the upcoming election, your vote will determine the future of the country.
Over the last 15–16 years, the country has suffered greatly. Banks have been emptied, and money has been siphoned off. These problems must be fixed. Without quarrels and conflicts, the right people must be elected.”
The BNP Secretary General added, “We do politics for the development of the people and to live in peace. In recent times, we could not live peacefully. For 15 years, we went through difficult times. Now a good time has come. There is hope that a fair election will be held where everyone can vote.”
Mirza Fakhrul also said, “I have been with you for a long time. My father did good work in this area. As his son, I have come to you as well. I was once a minister—no one can say that I even drank a cup of tea at their expense. I am the party’s candidate in this election and have come to ask for your votes. The symbol is the sheaf of paddy. This will be my last election. Please give me the opportunity to work.”
Speaking about BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman, Mirza Fakhrul said, “If BNP comes to power, agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000, including interest, will be waived. The government will take responsibility for NGO loans. Loans taken by mothers will be forgiven. In addition, family cards will be issued to mothers and agricultural cards to farmers. Employment opportunities will be created for 10 million people within 18 months, prioritizing educated unemployed youths. Peace and discipline will be restored, and people of all religions will be able to live peacefully.”
