Driver dies as excavator machine plunges into ditch in Panchagarh

An excavator machine driver was killed as his vehicle fell into a roadside ditch on Mondolpara Katcha road in Debiganj upazila of the district in the early hours of today.

The deceased was identified as Rifat Islam, 23, son of Barek Ali of Saldanga village in Debiganj upazila.

Sub-inspector of Debiganj thana Faruk Rana said the accident occurred when Rifat was going to Tapriganj from Debiganj with his excavator machine in the area at about 3.30 am as his excavator machine fell into roadside ditch, leaving driver Rifat dead on the spot.

Being informed, fire service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the body from under excavator machine.

Later, the body was handed over to police.
