Depression in Bay of Bengal, Warning Signal 3 at Ports

A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a depression, prompting authorities to issue warning signal number 3 for four seaports in Bangladesh.

According to a special weather bulletin released on Sunday (September 8) the low-pressure area, located in the West Central Bay of Bengal and adjacent to the Northwest Bay, is moving northwest. As of 6 AM, it was positioned 710 km west-southwest of Chattogram, 670 km west-southwest of Cox's Bazar, and 575 km southwest of both Mongla and Payra seaports. The system may intensify as it continues to move.

Due to this depression, pressure variations in the North Bay of Bengal are causing gusty winds, with speeds reaching up to 50 km/h near the center. Coastal areas and seaports may experience winds of up to 40 km/h, with stronger gusts.

Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra ports have been instructed to hoist local warning signal number 3. Fishermen and trawlers operating in the North Bay of Bengal are advised to remain near the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
