Ex-IGP Mamun shown arrested in 4 more murder cases

Former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been shown arrested in four more cases filed over killings have been taken place in the capital during the recent anti- discrimination student movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam showed Mamun arrested in two separate murder cases filed with capital's Bhatara Police Station, while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman showed him arrested in two other cases filed with Khilgaon Police Station.

Earlier police produced the former IGP before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam after end of his eight-day remand in the case lodged over killing of grocery shop owner Abu Sayed in capital's Mohammadpur area and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till end of probe in the case.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the former IGP on September 3 and the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Akhteruzzaman had placed him on eight-day remand in Abu Sayed murder case the next day.

Abu Sayed was gunned down by police in Bosila 40 feet intersection under Mohammadpur Police Station on July 19. One Amir Hamza filed the case against seven including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina on August 13.

The other accused in the case are: Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Habibur Rahman, Harun Ur Rashid and Biplab Kumar Sarker.
