Former judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, who was arrested while attempting to cross the Dona border in Kanighat upazila, Sylhet, into India, has been granted bail by the court. However, due to pending cases against him in other parts of the country, the court has ordered his detention.

The bail was granted by Sylhet's Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Judge Anjan Kanti Das, on Tuesday morning (September 17).

On the night of August 23, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), with the assistance of local youth, apprehended Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik from a forested area near the Dona border as he attempted to flee to India. He was handed over to Kanighat police the following morning on August 24. Arrested under Section 54, he was presented in court, where the judge ordered his remand to prison.
