BNP to Meet Chief Adviser Today: Reforms and Election in Focus

Before launching state reform activities, the interim government's Chief Adviser, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, is set to hold a third round of talks with political parties. The discussions will begin with a meeting with the BNP.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM on Saturday (October 5) at Jamuna, with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir leading a delegation of the party's standing committee members.

BNP leaders stated that, ahead of the 2023 twelfth parliamentary elections, the party had presented 31 reform proposals to opposition parties, detailing the necessary reforms, including changes to the Election Commission, required for a free, fair, and credible election. The proposals also outlined the reforms needed for the post-election state. During the meeting with the Chief Adviser, the BNP plans to discuss the key pre-election reforms from these 31 points. Additionally, they will try to gauge the interim government's stance on the upcoming election.

BNP standing committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told Dhaka Post that internal discussions are ongoing about the type of reform proposals the party will present. However, the establishment of a government elected by the people’s vote will certainly be a focus of the discussion.

A BNP standing committee leader, who wished to remain anonymous, mentioned that remnants of the former autocratic regime still exist in various parts of the administration, a concern repeatedly raised by party leaders in different meetings. The issue of removing these individuals will be discussed with the Adviser. Additionally, issues such as garment worker unrest and security during Durga Puja will also be raised.
