3 Killed, 10 Injured as Picnic Bus Electrocuted in Gazipur

Three students of a private university died after a picnic bus was electrocuted in Gazipur's Sreepur area. At least 10 students were injured in the incident.

The incident occurred at 8:30 am on Saturday (November 23) in front of a local China factory in Udaykhali village of Telihati union in Sreepur upazila. After receiving the information, Sreepur police reached the spot.

The deceased were identified as Shakib, Mahin, and Mozammel. All of them were third-year students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT). The identities of the injured could not be immediately ascertained.

They were going from Tongi to Matir Maya Resort in Sreepur.

Local resident Afsar Uddin (70) said that a total of 460 third-year students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) were going from Tongi to Matir Maya Resort in Sreepur.

The accident occurred when six BRTC buses leaving Dhaka were on their way to the picnic. Five buses left safely, but one bus came into contact with an electric wire. Three students were electrocuted. One died on the spot. The other two were seriously injured.

The process of recovering the body is ongoing. Police said that details of the incident will be announced later.
