The state has filed a petition seeking a stay on the High Court’s verdict that declared ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan.

On Monday, December 2, Additional Attorney General Barrister Anik R. Haque confirmed the development.

He stated that the matter is scheduled for a hearing in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court next Sunday.

Earlier, on March 10, 2020, a High Court bench comprising Justice F.R.M. Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K.M. Kamrul Kader issued the verdict declaring ‘Joy Bangla’ as the national slogan.

Meanwhile, the Appellate Division on Sunday stayed another High Court verdict that declared August 15 as a public holiday marking the National Mourning Day. Prior to this, an interim government had revoked the public holiday for August 15.
