GCMN Calls for Climate Justice, Criticizes COP29 Outcomes in Baku Meeting

The Global Climate Media Network (GCMN) has called on the international community to prioritize climate justice by supporting developing nations in mitigating climate impacts. During its inaugural meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan, the network also emphasized the need for robust global monitoring to ensure that commitments to aid poorer nations are fulfilled, fostering a sustainable future.

Participants expressed disappointment with the outcomes of COP29, citing inadequate progress on climate finance and a lack of consensus on fossil fuel policies. They urged that COP30 in Brazil focus on aligning 2025 voluntary commitments with the 1.5°C warming threshold of the Paris Agreement.

The meeting, chaired by GCMN Convenor Md Habibur Rahman, featured contributions from global climate leaders, including Sharif Jamil, Zakir Hossain Khan, and Elisa Cabiale, among others.
