Bangladesh imposes seasonal fishing ban

The Bangladesh government has announced a seasonal fishing ban in the Bay of Bengal and riverine water bodies from April 15 to June 11.

According to a media release issued today (March 19), the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock states that this annual ban is crucial for the conservation of marine species, particularly for breeding species like ilish.

However, the restriction presents economic challenges for coastal fishing communities dependent on the industry.
