At a conference held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Qatar University, Chief Advisor of Bangladesh's Interim Government, Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, urged global leaders and institutions to shift focus from profit-driven motives to serving humanity and protecting the planet.
Speaking at the session titled "Building a World of Three Zeros: Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Wealth Concentration, and Zero Unemployment," Dr Yunus warned that our current civilisation is on a self-destructive path. "This system creates nothing but waste, which will ultimately lead to our collapse," he said.
He emphasised that unless we change our course and commit to sustainability and equity, Earth may no longer remain livable.
Following his keynote, Dr Yunus was scheduled to meet with Qatar's Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, for a bilateral discussion.
Other key attendees included Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, National Security Advisor Dr Khalilur Rahman, and SDG Chief Coordinator Lamia Morshed.
