Bangladesh Police have arrested 1,542 individuals in a series of nationwide operations, including suspects wanted in criminal cases and others involved in various offenses.

The operation also led to the recovery of firearms and ammunition, according to a statement issued on Saturday (July 5) by AIG (Media and Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar of the Police Headquarters.

Among the arrested, 1,109 were detained under existing cases and warrants, while the remaining 433 were apprehended for other criminal activities, the press release said.

During the operations, law enforcement officials recovered sub-machine guns (SMGs), foreign-made pistols, magazines, and a cache of rifle and pistol bullets, although the police did not immediately disclose specific locations or details regarding the seizures.

The coordinated operations were part of the police force’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities, enhance public safety, and enforce outstanding legal actions across the country.

No further information was provided regarding the identities of the detainees or the nature of the crimes involved.

The Police Headquarters said investigations are ongoing, and legal proceedings will follow in accordance with the law.
