A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BJI training plane crashed in the capital's Diabari area today, killing 19 people including the pilot and injuring more than 150 others. The Federal Journalism Society (FJS) has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the incident.

In a condolence message on Monday (July 21), FJS Executive Committee President Ferdous Mamun, General Secretary Zahidul Islam Shishir and Organizing Secretary Sumon Pramanik said that most of the dead and injured were young children. This is an irreparable loss for us. May Allah give everyone the strength to bear the grief. The leaders prayed for the forgiveness of the departed souls of the deceased. The leaders also demanded the government to provide compensation to the deceased and proper treatment to the injured.

The ISPR said that as part of a regular training, the FT-7 BGI fighter jet took off from the AK Khandaker Air Force Base in Kurmitola at 1:06 pm on Monday. Then the aircraft developed a mechanical fault. To deal with the accident and avoid major damage, the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Taukir Islam, made "every effort" to take the fighter jet from a densely populated area to a sparsely populated area. However, "unfortunately" the aircraft crashed into a two-story building of Milestone School and College in Diyabari, Dhaka. 19 people, including the pilot, were killed and 164 were injured.
