"It is not possible to implement reforms overnight. This will take time. However, one cannot sit idly, abandoning democratic practices. Imposing anything will not be right. Therefore, without delay, we must quickly move towards a democratic process," said Mirza Fakhrul.

"Reforms must be brought about by sending people's representatives to parliament through democratic means," he added.

He made these remarks on Saturday morning at an event in the capital.

The BNP Secretary General said that over the past 15 years, all the dreams of the people have been strangled. The structures of the economy, democracy, and politics have been completely destroyed. Due to the lack of accountability, state resources have been looted.

He said that in order to rebuild the country, all problems must be overcome and progress must be made. The government is only functioning because everyone is cooperating.

Mirza Fakhrul said that there must be a prompt return to the democratic process without further delay. The BNP wants elections for valid reasons. Ziaur Rahman brought about major changes in the economic and political spheres, which have been deliberately destroyed.
