Voting registration and national identity card (NID) services are going to launch in Japan and Canada for expatriate Bangladeshis.

The services will be launched in Japan in the last week of this month and in Canada in early September.

Director General of the Election Commission’s NID Wing ASM Humayun Kabir said, “Technical teams have already installed equipment and completed training in Tokyo of Japan, and Toronto and Ottawa of Canada.”

“Test and trial services are also underway in issuing NID. The official inauguration will take place soon,” he stated.

EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed is currently in Japan to oversee preparations and training.

Meanwhile, a technical team has been working in Canada since 10 August. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin will travel to Canada later this month to inaugurate the service there.

Once operational, expatriate Bangladeshis in 10 countries will be able to access the NID service through 17 embassies and mission offices.
